This is an original, nearly perfect c. 1937 Louis Marx and Company WW1 Doughboy Popup Windup Tank with brilliant, lithographed colors. It is in perfect working condition and only needs the flint for the cannon to shoot sparks.

When wound with its key and switched on this tank moves forward and side to side, would sparkle with new flint in the cannon and the soldier pops up occasionally (the spark wheel spins freely). This tank is in Near Fine to Fine condition with minimal wear and no breaks, restorations, repairs or touch ups. It is approximately 10" x 4" in size. It is a real, working piece of American toy history that is very rare in near pristine condition. Louis Marx and Company was an American toy maker that operated from approximately 1919 to 1980.

It was perhaps the most famous toy company in America through the late 1980's and remains today as best known for its brightly lithographed tin, windup toys.
