Rarely Seen Vintage Marx Butter and Egg Man Tin Litho Windup Toy. This is a toy that you rarely ever see up for sale and it's the Butter and Egg Man tin litho wind up toy by Marx, circa 1930s. And I'm bringing it to your interests from the "PA TOYS OF TIMES PAST" collection. Wearing a yellow and white checked suit coat, white shirt, red tie, and brown pin stripe trousers, he is ready to sell you his smile and his wares. In his left hand he holds his salesman's case which reads "Fresh Country Butter" and in his right hand he holds onto his duck which can provide Eggs Laid to Order. " The placard on his back reads "The Butter and Egg Man. Wind him and he aggressively shuffles forward rolling on four small wooden wheels tucked underneath the duck and the case. Bright, colorful lithography is sharp and strong. Wind up motor works as intended.
It's in superb excellent condition - toy does show very little age-related wear, and will display well and is a gem for any tin toy collection. Recast from the more common Joe Penner tin litho wind up toy, Marx collectors can immediately identify the similarities. This toy could be a tribute to "The Butter and Egg Man" play which opened in September 1925 and ran for 243 performances and the subsequent black and white silent movie released in September 1928.
