Just in time for Christmas, this is a vintage ride-on locomotive manufactured in the US by the Marx Toy Co. (circa 1950) fresh from a four generation farm house in Saratoga, New York. No idea how long it'd been wrapped in canvas inside an army duffle bag sitting up in a barn loft. It is 100% original in unrestored condition.
No Franken-Restoration or Fantasy Recreation here. It hasn't been tinkered with, buffed, re-touched or parts swapped. Its made of pressed steel, with original paint (two shades of gray on the body and red roof). There are raised stamped numerals ("3000") on the side of the coal bin.
The hard rubber wheels are in great condition with no wobble, rim lap or niblets off the rubber. The Litho graphics (on either side of the engine) are in very good condition and incorporate the Marx Toy Company logo. The locomotive is 27" long x 6 1/2" x 11 1/2 to the top of the metal handle and is in good condition. The outside rear of the coal bin is stamped in the center with the Marx Toy Company mark.Cosmetically the body has a uniform light rusting covering approximately 10% of the surface area which is well below average for a totally original steel toy this old. Structurally the locomotive is in excellent condition with no; dents, dings, bends, scratches, etc..
This toy can go right into the collection as is or be a fantastic starting point for a total restoration resulting in a mint example for the collection, buyers choice. The sole shortcoming of this toy is the missing bell which after some limited research turns out to be missing the majority of the time.
This isn't surprising since we were all kids once and its obvious what part of this toy was going to be the first casualty shortly into its play life. This will be a memorable toy under the tree for the child in your life, regardless of age. OK, now for the boilerplate. The little lady and I are comfortably set in retirement and sell stuff "on the side" because I inherited the hoarding bug from my great grandfather, grandfather & father. As newly minted senior citizens my wife has said its time to divest ourselves of some of our treasures or at least the ones our children aren't interested in inheriting. Note the bigger print here? Its because this is a "No Return" sale (unless there is a significant difference between this description and what you receive). I just don't want the hassle of the back and forth, I'm retired! Obviously, if there is a problem we'll do what is fair to all parties to address and remedy the situation for common satisfaction.
This hasn't occurred yet but it can't hurt to be up front about our intentions. I think we've covered all the bases, thanks.
